Farmering About This Spring

Welcome to our new site, it is something that we have been planning for a couple of years and we are finally about ready to launch it. We are hoping to establish a larger collective in the virtual sense. Over the years we have found that the majority of sites regarding collectivism, sustainability and the related issues tend to morph into political and academic discussions with very little actual hands on information being available.

It is our intent to establish a community for those of us who are actually doing the day today development and management of voluntary and intentional communities. By that we hope to facilitate better, more practical exchange of real time experience.

We believe that sustainability is a topic that affects everyone from those living in urban areas, apartment complexes, condo developments, schools as well as those living in rural settings and managing or developing sustainable agricultural systems to support the availability of local, healthy foods. Our long term goal is to serve as a resource to both the communities that exist as well as exploring their options regarding sustainability and our allied NGO’s and non profit’s working on sustainability issues world wide. Please consider joining us, it is and always will be free, up to date and well documented and sourced. We look forward to a wide diversity of members from the whole planet. We will endeavor to avoid political issues except as they affect the endeavors we have in common. We welcome discussion and feed back at any time at all.

We are actively engaged in farm homesteading. Technology applied to real life problems in a private sector environment. Cottage industries based in our rural setting are a focal point of our efforts.

We are under construction and will be changing rapidly, so please revisit soon for expanded information about Southeast Texas, Voluntary Simplicity, and our publishing efforts.

At our farm, SBA Farms Collective, which by the way stands for star base alpha,   we are engaged in demonstration gardening, wild crafting education, wildlife habitat restoration and rehabilitation. We are rebuilding after Hurricane Ike blessed us with the opportunity to get further off grid and destroyed much of what we have accomplished over the last 30 some odd years including a constructed wetland.  We are reconstructing the wetlands, rebuilding as fast as resources permit and our small livestock are returning finally from the refuge they have been inhabiting since the storm.  We are renewing our gray water systems and rain water collections systems.  We use them both for irrigation purposes.  Also we are installing a Rock and Reed Filter system for gray water supplementation and increased recycling of natural resources.    Please revisit our location often, we could use some feedback.

The Alchemy of Light

How we Roll

Not much time off at a farm, but we live 12 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, so fishing is a great way to pass time and relax.

Sunrise at the Farm

Sunrise meditations help start the day in peace and focused on our labors for the upcoming day. Sunset reflection time is always just as beautiful.

namaste. Sbafarmscollective.org, a brand new look for the site for a 30 year old collective on the Gulf Coast of Texas. We were completely destroyed by hurricane ike and as part of our rebuilding efforts we have launched our site and it contains a forum section. We would greatly appreciate your consideration for cross posting or participation in the forum section. We have a great deal of common in what we seek to accomplish and would like to contribute in your regional sections of connections and reciprocal linking and posting. Thank you for your time and consideration michael founder sba farms collective.
